Dating back to the middle ages, women stood on the left side, which resulted in the males dominant right hand being free to defend his bride if there would be any kidnappings. As the years have gone, by we like to think of it as, when the bride and groom turn to face their family and friends, the bride is standing to the groom’s right, symbolising her spot as his “right hand” throughout their future.
We also would like to think that women are always right, and you’re free to stand on either side, of your preference.
